The program schedule depends on enrollment, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. At the end of the program, successful students are qualified to begin the CCHI certification process.

The course entails 48 hours of in-class work and up to 20+ additional hours of lab work.Students learn medical terminology in both English and the target language and are required to complete supervised language-specific exercises in class and via the Program’s Virtual Language Lab. On the skills development side, the training provides practice in both the consecutive and the simultaneous modes, sight translation, note-taking, and self-critiquing techniques. The training covers the national standards, role and ethics, linguistic competency, and cultural responsiveness. Access to Medical Interpreter Training and Education (AMIT) at Memorial Sloan Kettering With more than twenty-five years of experience addressing the language barrier in healthcare, our language and public health experts at the Immigrant Health and Cancer Disparities Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering offer a comprehensive multilingual training in medical interpreting.Our training is accepted as a prerequisite for medical interpreter certification, and serves as continuing education for sign language interpreters certified by the Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf (RID). The AALB Medical Interpreter Training program prepares multilingual individuals to become professional medical interpreters with a high degree of efficacy in addition to our interactive live lectures, students will have the opportunity to participate in simulation training, allowing them to apply the skills they are learning in their non-English language and get feedback on their technique.
